This is because people are not being blocked by arbitrary tasks that require completion each time they wish to kill Mephisto - this doesn't feel good.Ĭurrent dungeon objectives need to either be optional AND/OR provide some sort of in-game feedback for their completion. Both dungeons and Mephisto runs are incredibly repetitive, and yet people are still doing one over 20 years later. The closest comparison usually being made is the Diablo 2 endless MF run, where people run certain bosses/champions thousands of time. There is a lack of player agency here that is not necessarily present in other end-game ARPG loops that are regularly cited as incredibly repetitive. You are not given a choice between clearing the dungeon or rushing the boss or doing a dungeon "objective." I have this in quotes as to me the real objective of any dungeons is getting loot, and that usually lies with the boss at the end as the monster with the best loot chance/table. There have been a lot of wordy posts lately so I'm just going to get into it - the core issue with these dungeons is the fact that content is being gated from you with nothing to show for it.
